The end-of-the-year wrap-up
Hi there.
Well, it’s been an interesting year! Like most years, there were some lovely things and some sad things and some fun things and some annoying things.
However, I am happy to report that when I started this newsletter, I was in a very different place than I am today. I set my intention for 2023 with my word of the year—nourish—because I was still working my way out of burnout and wanted, needed, to take the time to replenish my energy and creativity. I needed to take the pressure off. That was not the easiest thing for this “Achiever” personality to do, but I’m so glad I did.
The journey is always ongoing, but here are some things that came out of my “nourished” year
I started this newsletter and really enjoyed chatting with y’all about your own journeys (thank you so much for sharing!)
I did not write a book this year—and I’m okay with that. I think I needed that.
I developed a new class, The Nourished Writer: Self-Care for Writers, which launches on January 7th.
I started diving deep into studying a new genre, which filled me up with positive Learner energy
I decided to become a Gallup® Certified Strengths Coach and will be
coaching writers starting next week (!!!) I could not be more excited.
If you had asked me at the beginning of 2023 where I thought I’d end up at the end of 2023, I would not have been able to guess this, lol.
But that’s what journeys are about, right? Sometimes it’s good not to know your destination and to be open to where the road leads.
I’m very excited for the new year. My planners (yes, plural) are ready to go. My coaching calendar will open for appointments next week. (You can get on the waiting list here.) And I’m brainstorming ideas for a new book because I am ready to get back to writing.
I’ve shared it already, but my 2024 Word of the Year is Connect. To connect to my muse, to connect to other writers through coaching, teaching, and venues like this newsletter, and to connect to readers.
I know some think a word of the year is silly, but I find them quite powerful. I hope this coming year’s word proves to be just as helpful a guiding light as this year’s has been.
Thank you for coming along on this journey with me! I hope you’ll continue to hang around and share.
*Note: you may have received this note from a different newsletter service originally because I left Substack when they were making some choices I didn’t agree with. They have reversed course so now I’m hosting the letter here again.
