I have chills because I've been feeling so much of the same and clinging to Becca Syme's Quitcasts and books on burnout and about to re-read Emily Nagoski's BURNOUT. I, too, remember rushing home to throw open livejournal and bang out like 2000 happy words and not even think about someone seeing them. Now I can't imagine writing something I can't sell and I miss writing because I like writing.
I don't like writing. Ediiting and perfecting? LOVE it, actually. Getting the draft on paper? UGH...
*hugs* Becca's burnout books and info are great. I reread her burnout book usually once a year and am always thinking about "energy pennies." I've also read Nagoski's Burnout and it's well done. But I think when I've read burnout books, it was all with the mentality of looking for the tools that will get me back to BUSINESS as quickly as possible, so I haven't been totally successful coming out of the burnout phases. This time, over the last year at least, I've really given myself permission to focus more on recovering the creative part of myself and not be as zoned in on the business parts. It's an ongoing journey for sure.
I had a book release 2 weeks ago, and my parents asked if I was excited. I just shrugged and said 'meh'. I wanted to be. But I was so caught up in 1) writing a series-ender 2) waiting for edits on another 3) promoting a Valentines sale on TOP of the Valentines release 4) worry about a cover reveal for a 3rd book 4) trying to get back into the TikTok groove to boost sales 5) trying to get Amazon ads to work....the list goes on. The non-writing work of an author is whittling me down to a nub. And that exhaustion makes it hard to get the motivation to write my super fun stories.
*sending hugs* I'm sorry you're in the cyclone right now. I'm very familiar with those feelings, especially the "meh, another release" one. It's hard to find energy to be enthusiastic when you're drained. Hope you can find some time for rest.
Thanks for tagging along! And that's how I am with cooking. I love getting cookbooks and cooking from recipes. But then you hear people saying that "real cooks" make up their own recipes. I have no desire to do that. The ones in books have been tested and edited and revised. Let someone else do that rough drafting work for me. I just want to cook a great meal. :)

Definitely going to muse about this.
